Internationally educated nurses refer to individuals who have completed their nursing education outside of the country where they intend to practice. This research area focuses on the challenges and opportunities faced by these individuals as they seek licensure and employment in a different healthcare system. Studies in this area often examine issues such as language proficiency, cultural competence, education equivalency, and social integration. The goal of this research is to improve the integration and retention of internationally educated nurses in the healthcare workforce, ultimately benefiting both the nurses themselves and the populations they serve.
